That's it, the big reveal was done, our brand new theme for Scripts - Ireland's Playwriting Festival is : PERCEPTIONS!

Now that the stage is set (so to speak), it's your turn, what are you going to write?

Scripts 2025 theme is "PERCEPTIONS"
Scripts 2025 theme is "PERCEPTIONS"

Taking place in Birr, Co Offaly from the 7th to the 13th of july 2025, Scripts - Ireland’s Playwriting Festival creates unique opportunities for playwrights to have their work developed and produced. all you have to do (easier to say than actually do, we know) is WRITE. Write a short 15 minutes play with no more than 3 characters on this years theme and submit it to our panel before Friday 21st of March at 12noon.

All submissions will be read and assessed through a rigorous shortlisting process and three scripts, most suited for development, will be selected for the next step.

The 3 selected writers will be invited to attend a week of mentoring and script development in Birr under the guidance of Playwright and Screenwriter Eugene O'Brien. Together they will write, rewrite, explore and develop they play in a collaborative and supportive environment. Throughout that arduous process the playwrights will be supported by a team of artists who will help them develop, and produce their emerging scripts for a rehearsed reading of the new works by professional actors at the festival finale.

Finally Industry professionals will then judge the final versions and a winner will be selected.

At the end of the festival the prize for "Best Play" will include:

●     Dramaturgy support with the literary department at The Abbey Theatre;

●     a scholarship with Fishamble, the New Play Company;

●     a Theatre Residency at Birr Theatre & Arts Centre in 2026.

So, are you up for the task?

Can you write a short, arresting play bursting with potential?

Then, what are you waiting for, get writting!

We can't wait to read what you will be coming up with.
