We absolutely love that quote from Oliver Sacks the author of "Awakenings" & "The Man Who Mistook his Wife for a Hat". his insight on his patients and his gift for communication made a best-selling author of this professor of neurology who helped introduce syndromes like Tourette's or Asperger's to a general audience. What was striking about his writing is that it all started with the patients, their characters as much as their conditions. Oliver Sacks humanized and demystified mental-ill-health and changed our perceptions of these people through his own.

To get back to his quote, every act of perception is indeed an act of creation can spark a new story in the same way, based on each individual perception, every memory is unique and keeps being re-imagined every time it is remembered leading to sometimes very different (and new) stories. that leaves a lot of scope for a writer's imagination and creative gift.

It's with that in mind that we invite visionary playwrights to redefine reality and challenge our senses through the art of theatre for Scripts Festival 2025.

This year’s theme, PERCEPTIONS, asks you to delve deep into the intricacies of what we see, feel, and believe—reminding us that reality is never as fixed as it seems. We want your original plays that inspire, incite, and transform the stage.

Submit your work by Friday, 21 March 2025 @ 12 noon for a chance to:

  • Gain dramaturgy support with the literary department at The Abbey Theatre,

  • Secure a scholarship with Fishamble, the New Play Company,

  • Win a Theatre Residency at Birr Theatre & Arts Centre in 2026.

Bring your imagination to life and let your unique perspective shine. For more details, visit our website: https://www.scriptsireland.com/scripts-2025.
